u-he´s Zebra2 has got an update to Version 2.8 now, and Diva has reached Version 1.4.3.
The Zebra2 update includes a new preset browser, two new UI designs, a wavefolder and a new plate reverb module. The Diva update includes a powerful new preset browser.
The updates are free for Zebra2/Diva owners and can simply be installed over the existing versions.
The new preset browser comes with 8 colour coded categories of favourites, added search functions and a more interactive UI.
NuRev is a new plate reverb with pre-delay.
The pre-delay is useful for retaining the dry signal while using lots of reverb. It it´s also very useful for slap-back effects with short decay and small sized rooms.
"Damp" is a low pass filter in the feedback loop, which causes higher frequencies to fade faster than lower ones, imitating the "warming" effect of carpets, curtains etc. in a room.
Decay represents the reflectivity of the room and determines how long the process of fading to silence lasts.
The size of the room can be adjusted using the - of course - "Size" knob.
"Tone" is a quite powerful instrument to influence the colour of the reverb. Factually "Tone" is a strong "tilt" equalizer.
"Width" determines the stereo spread and with "Dry/Wet" you set the the amounts of processed and unprocessed signal to occur at the units output.
A wavefolder is a special kind of waveshaper, which maps the input signal onto a sine wave, folding it back on itself multiple times. Zebra2´s FOLD unit sounds best when applied to signals with very little high frequency content.
The total number of cycles is determined by the value of the "Ripples" parameter, and with "Live View" switched on, you can see your signal move through the cycles. With "Folds" you adjust how many of the ripples are used. As it is effectively an input level control, setting FOLDS to zero without any modulation will result in silence.
BIAS shifts the used section of the curve to the left or right. Bias modulation is applied in opposite directions per stereo channel, resulting in a unique stereo effect.
RATIO is the relative level of the ripples, effectively an output boost control. And SLOPE tilts the curve downwards or upwards.
With SOFT CLIP you set the smoothness of the two knees to the left and right of the ripples.
